CAMP FACILITIES: Campers reach Tanager by a three mile motor boat ride and sleep in tents by the lake shore and eat on open porches. We spend most of our days outdoors, while also enjoying activities in well-kept buildings and leantos built in traditional Adirondack style.

With no road access or electricity and set apart from the technological world, the setting is ideal for fostering children's appreciation of nature and their connection to it. CAMP FACILITIES: Surprise Lake Camp is blessed with incredible natural beauty. Our camp sits on 500 beautiful wooded acres surrounded by an enormous expanse of undeveloped state parkland. Our sparkling, 30-acre lake is nestled between two rugged mountain ridges. It creates a vision of rustic beauty that dances in the heads of visitors years after they've been to camp. Additionally, we have miles and miles of gorgeous hiking trails with breathtaking views of the Hudson River, and beautiful campsites for cookouts and overnights. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Surprise Lake Camp has a rich history. It was founded in 1902 by the Educational Alliance to provide a summer vacation for Jewish boys from Main Building - 1920 the tenements of Manhattan's Lower East Side. In its first season, it had six tents for 25 campers and five counselors. One of the first campers was Eddie Cantor, who, upon achieving success as an entertainer, became one of the camp's most ardent supporters. Since then Surprise Lake Camp has served thousands of young people, many of whom have achieved prominence, among them, entertainer Neil Diamond, talk show host Larry King, actor Jerry Stiller, and former New York Attorney General Robert Abrams.

In 1911, the 92nd Street Y became partners in running the camp, and the camp office was located at the Y for many years. In 1917, when the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies was created, Surprise Lake Camp was one of the initial member agencies. The camp then became incorporated as a New York not-for-profit in 1920, eventually leading to complete independence from its founding agencies. Over the years, Surprise Lake Camp has been substantially rebuilt three times. In addition, its clientele and program have evolved as the Jewish community has changed. Originally established to provide summer vacations in the country for poor boys from the lower East Side, the camp has also gone through periods when it was dedicated to feeding undernourished boys, operated as a year-round camp which included formal education during the winter, committed to the personal development of children using a social group work model, and run as a general co-ed summer camp with special emphasis on scholarships.

Many of our staff members and Directors are former campers who grew up at Thomas School and wanted to share the joys they had at camp with their children.

Our Directors are all RTE (Responding to Emergencies) certified, which includes CPR and First Aid (certified by the American Red Cross).

Our lifeguards are Red Cross Certified lifeguards and teach Red Cross certified swim lessons.

Our Riding Instructors are all certified instructors, as well as being certified in CPR and first aid by the Red Cross.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Campers age 13-15 participate in our CIT program where they can choose a specialty area in camp and mentor with staff from that area (Ex: Ride staff, lifeguards, counselors etc.) They also go on trips-some of our past trips have included: overnight to Hershey Park, overnight to Six Flags Great Adventure, day trip to the Waterfront Center (sailing and kayaking), day trip to Mountain Creek water park, overnight to Club Getaway, day trip to Brownstone Adventure Park, overnight Camping/White Water Rafting, etc.)

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Year round ride school with programs for ages 3 and older. Lessons offered include private lessons, group lessons and semi privates. Group lessons are offered full year or seasonally.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Pok-O-MacCready Camps is one of the oldest summer camps in the world. In fact, our boys’ camp is the oldest in the United States having been privately owned and operated by the same family since its establishment in 1905. In 1967 our current director, Jack Swan, saw the need for a summer camp for girls and opened Camp MacCready. We are now one big family, combining our names to “Pok-O-MacCready” and operating as a traditional residential Adirondack summer camp for boys and girls ages six to sixteen.

The proximity of our summer camp to the Adirondack Wilderness Park grants us access to more than 6 million acres of woodland, rocks, rivers, lakes, and mountains to explore. Summer camp isn’t just for kids anymore! Want to experience camp for yourself and wrap it up into an inexpensive family vacation? Maybe you and your children are just curious to see what Pok-O-MacCready is all about, but you’re not quite ready to take the plunge with an entire summer. We have an answer for that: bring the whole family to camp! Our annual Family Camp week runs at the end of August and is all-inclusive of accommodation, meals, activities and programming, and transportation for trips outside of camp. YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Pok-O-MacCready operates an Outdoor Education Center on its grounds from September through June of each year. Since 1974, the Pok-O-MacCready Outdoor Education Center has welcomed thousands of students and adults to participate in wilderness adventure excursions, team building dynamics, wildlife & ecology studies, living history programs, community events, and conservation initiatives. It’s true! Many of our campers choose to stay for all seven weeks of the summer. Staying for the whole season really allows campers to hone their skills in their class areas, go on more wilderness trips, and means they won’t miss out on any of the big summer camp events! In addition, 7-weekers get to enjoy special events in between the 4-week and 3-week session break such as Beach Day and a day trip to the Great Escape amusement park. Some campers choose to register for the first 4 weeks, and then decide later to upgrade to the full 7-week session, and that’s just fine by us. If you’re unsure whether your camper would like to be a 4-weeker or a 7-weeker, don’t worry…it only takes a mouse-click for us to change a 4-weeker to a 7-weeker. Feel free to discuss that option with your child if you think they could benefit from a longer session!

4-WEEK SESSION JULY 1, 2018 – JULY 29, 2019 Standard Rate: $6,400
The first half of the summer consists of our 4-week overnight program. The 4-week session allows campers to learn new skills and take part in a variety of classes. The session includes many themed events which lead up to our “Color Wars”, in which campers don their colors of Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, or Green and see which team will come out on top: these games have been a camper favorite for decades!

“ROOKIE CAMP” (2 Weeks, for ages 6-10 only)
JULY 1, 2018 – JULY 14, 2018 Standard Rate: $3,200

For the first two weeks of the 4-Week session, we run a two week “Rookie Camp” for first-time campers between the ages of 6 to 9 years old. We feel this short session is a good bite-sized introduction to summer camp, and also allows campers the flexibility to stay on for the remainder of the 4-week session if they get bitten by the “summer camp bug” and want to stay longer!

3-WEEK SESSION (Overnight) JULY 31, 2018 – AUGUST 18, 2018 Standard Rate: $4,600

The 3-Week session offers two options to campers: a traditional overnight summer camp program, or a day-camp option. The 3-Week session is full of fun classes Mondays – Fridays, with special events planned on the weekends. It’s also the session in which our famous GREEK GAMES take place, as well as some of our campers’ all-time favorite camp events like the “Pok-O-Palooza” music festival, the Jack’s Cup sailing race, Casino Night, and the Pok-O County Fair.

3-WEEK SESSION (Day Camp)* JULY 21, 2018 – AUGUST 18, 2018 Standard Rate: $2,100 for a first-time camper.

Our day campers attend camp from approximately 9am to about 5pm Mondays through Fridays. Just like overnight campers, they get to create their own class schedule from a list of over 30 program offerings. They are, of course, assigned to a cabin and counselor and have their own bunks so they have a comfortable spot to relax during Rest Hour. Day campers also have the option of staying the night for an evening activity or program if they wish, and we can easily make those arrangements, although a small fee may apply. They also have the added bonus of being able to stay overnight the last week of camp for no additional fee!

CAMP FACILITIES: All our facilities are newly renovated. We have a private lake, 2 heated swimming pools, large indoor spaces, new arts and crafts/fine arts facilities, fitness center, ball fields, and new dining room.

CAMP FACILITIES: Kids stay in our 100 year old estate lodges. These buildings, equipped with bathrooms, kitchens, and comfortable bedding, allow kids to be away from home and challenge themselves without being worried about a raccoon climbing into their sleeping bag at night time.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Vanderkamp Center runs a summer camp program that is radically different from any you'll find anywhere else. Just ask the folks at campingcoasttocoast .com, who called it a "one of a kind, magical place." These consultants loved our philosophy so much that they dropped everything to work here this summer, in 2014!

What makes Vanderkamp so different is that it treats children as true equals - getting rid of rules designed for adult convenience, and focusing on helping children to love themselves for exactly who they are. By helping children employ wise freedom, the growth seen by kids at Vanderkamp is really unlike anywhere else. While rules designed for adult convenience are discarded, Vanderkamp takes physical and emotional intimidation incredibly seriously, and it has fostered an environment where this sort of bullying is nearly non-existent.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Troop Camping
Troop leaders may take their girls camping for a weekend to Camp Kaufmann from September- May. Troop camping is a weekend event up to 72 hours in duration, planned and carried out by a troop at camp. The troop leaders reserve the housing and plan for meals and activities.

For any camping trip, the troop must have on certified first-aid and cpr certified adult for each group up to 44 campers. Each house or unit must have its own first aid/cpr certified adult. If you plan to use a fireplace, fire ring or seasonal unit, you need a camp certified adult (see training section). If you are staying in a lake house and do not plan on using a fire place or pit, then you will only need an adult who has taken the Overnight Adventures and Beyond training. Transportation is not provided for these weekends.

Outdoor Classrooms for Troop Camping
Troops can choose to enhance their experience by hiring one of our experienced counselors to run a specific activity for them. You will notice that there are different classrooms based on the season and they include different prices and lengths. New this year, we are introducing program patches for each of these classrooms. If this is your first time participating in these programs you will want to purchase a base patch for each of your girls. They are available at our camp trading post for $8.50 each. They will receive a free patch at the end of each of their outdoor classrooms, which can velcro onto the base patch!

“Do-It-Yourself” Programs in a Box for Troop Camping
Troops can choose to enhance their experience by renting a program in a box for the weekend. Each season features different boxes. These boxes include all of the programs you will need for the weekend including earned badges for the group.

Special Events
These events are open to all ages. We provide the troop with all of the activities, food and supplies for the weekend. The food and menu will be provided for each troop. The troop will prepare their meal and will be responsible for cleaning up after themselves. We always include a SWAP making station and actual swapping time, so girls can get to know girls from other troops during these weekends. Transportation is not provided for these events.

Girl-Only Weekends
This is an independent experience for older girls. Girls come without their leaders or moms and meet girls from other troops. The girls are provided everything including: programming, transportation, food, experienced counselors and more. Girls work towards specific badges and Journeys.

Day Trips
Girls can enjoy these trips with their moms or with their whole troop (sometimes even their families). These programs are great way for girls to enjoy camp for the first time! All of the programming, supplies and food are provided. Transportation is not.

Summer Weekends
Spend summer weekends swimming, fishing, boating, and having a great time. Come prepared to meet new people and have amazing experiences.

Mini Sleep-Away
If you’re between the ages of 9 and 17, come away with us to sleep-away camp where we’ll help you learn to climb a tree and build your confidence. Sleep-Away Adventure Camp offers girls the chance to experience a world of adventure and discovery. Girls will spend their days learning leadership skills, making friends, and sharing the excitement of going away with other girls.

Encampments
Camping events organized and operated by Troop Camp-certified adult volunteers from a geographic subdivision of the council (i.e. a borough or service unit) in which several troops participate. The program is planned and implemented by volunteers; some of the planning and scheduling may be done by the individual troops.

CAMP FACILITIES: The 443-acre property boasts beautiful wilderness, an 80-acre private and pristine lake, a mountaintop (Putnam Mountain), miles of mountain streams, an historic iron smelting furnace, and complete camp facilities. Main camp includes rustic buildings housing our camp office, staff house, infirmary, and dining hall. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Campers are grouped by similar age and discover their strengths and unique voices as we support them through the transition to adulthood. Little Notch connects girls of diverse backgrounds with each other, positive mentors, and the land. We provide opportunities to develop responsibility, resourcefulness, wellness, creativity, and teamwork skills. Activities include swimming, canoeing, sailing, team building, ropes course, yoga, creek walks, wildlife observation, hiking, outdoor cooking, arts and crafts, music, overnight camp-outs, and so much more!

All of our activities are opportunities for campers to practice living in harmony with nature, each other, and themselves. Guided by their counselors, campers choose from a wide variety of group-planned activities, which allow for skill development and personal challenge in a safe and fun environment. Unless noted, all campers are eligible to participate in these activities, though not all activities are offered every day. Camp activities include swimming, canoeing, kayaking, sailing*, hiking, cookouts, land stewardship, campfires, creek-walking, tie-dyeing, drawing, beading, singing, ropes course, journaling, meditation, overnight camp-outs...and more.

We strive to bring together a diverse staff. They are selected for their strong leadership, problem solving skills, love of working with children, ability to model our mission, and a passion for the outdoors. All applicants are thoroughly screened and participate in comprehensive pre-camp training and orientation. The ratio of counselors to campers is one counselor to every six campers ages 7 and 8, and one counselor to every eight campers age 9 and above. All Camp Little Notch staff are certified in first aid. Waterfront and boating staff are certified lifeguards and ropes course staff are certified in belay. A registered nurse, or other licensed medical professional, oversees the health and safety of campers and staff on site.

OTHER CAMP INFO: Campers start their morning at 7:30 am giving them time to dress and any personal care before going to the dining hall to enjoy breakfast. At all meals, the campers, staff and volunteers work together to set the table, serve the food family style, and end the meal by cleaning and putting away the dishes. After breakfast, "kapers" are next. Kapers are community responsibilities throughout the camp. The campers then enjoy many fun-filled, camper-planned activities. The campers enjoy staying busy throughout the morning with programs such as hiking, boating, swimming, games, and arts & crafts. Lunch is at 12:30 pm, followed by a busy afternoon of more activities and "me-time" (personal time) before dinner at 6:00 pm. The girls then go to "Singing Logs" to enjoy learning new songs while building fond memories with friends and counselors. Each day ends with evening program time and campfires before bedtime at 9:00 pm.

CAMP FACILITIES: Each camp has its own waterfront with a fleet of canoes, kayaks, rowboats, and paddle boats that offers a wide variety of waterfront activities. Athletic facilities include a blacktop area, 2 sports fields, an archery range, rock climbing wall (real rock!), and challenge course. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: YEA is a unique and inspiring leadership summer camp for youth 12-17 who care about community service, activism and social justice. This week-long sleep-away program is designed to be a fun and transforming experience that builds life-long friendships between youth with similar interests. YEA Camp New York will have two concurrent sessions! One session for teens with a variety of causes, and for the first time ever, a separate session for teens interested in animal activism (and what better location than a Farm Animal Sanctuary!).

Our program also provides a meaningful opportunity for campers to learn more about some of the issues facing our planet and to get inspired and empowered to take action on those issues. Campers choose an issue of importance to them (for example, some have chosen climate change, racism, homophobia, homelessness, animal rights) and at YEA they build the knowledge, skills, confidence, and community to take action on that issue long after camp is over. Youth who have participated in our programs report that the camp was one of the most fun, rewarding and life-changing experiences they have had, and, with YEA's community support, have gone on to start school clubs, plan fundraisers for nonprofits, organize community clean-ups, and attend hearings to comment about important community issues.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our facilities bring a little rustic charm to the camping experience. We embrace our location in the Adirondacks, and cherish the beauty if the outdoors in all that we do. Our campers stay in cabins until grade 8 and in platform tents through high school. We have a fabulous lake for swimming, boating and enjoying our water trampoline and slide. Campers who want to try new activities can have a try at our 30 ft high rock wall, our trapeze, or our zip line.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: One of the greatest programs at Camp Cedarbrook is our wilderness adventure trips, where campers can hike or canoe the great spacious outdoors the Adirondacks have to offer. Our trip programs challenge girls to push the limits of their physical abilities and have a great time doing it. Girls in high school can also take part in our Leadership Education and Development (LEAD)program or our Camper in Leadership Training (CILT) program. Over a span of two summers, girls will learn to lead and guide young campers. The program is an opportunity for teens to learn responsibility, leadership and hard work.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Leadership and Education Development (LEAD) and CILT (Campers in Leadership Training) are both a one summer leadership development program for high school girls. LEAD is first and for those wanting more training they can continue with CILT. There is an emphasis on supervised leadership training in a camp setting. It includes class sessions, Bible study, a wilderness trip, and lots of hands-on experience in leading girls. This program is for those interested in serving God and others through a leadership role.

CAMP FACILITIES: Forrestel is located on a sprawling 800 acre farm with a variety of landscape features. Campers enjoy a large number of activities on our fields, streams, woodlands and campground. The buildings include a beautiful 1825 Greek Revival farmhouse, barn complex, eating house, tennis court, indoor arena, many outdoor rings and our campsite with modern shower house and large fire pit. The campers are housed in tent cabins. New in 2014 is our first cabin for the youngest campers located adjacent to the shower house.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Forrestel’s horseback riding programm is a very unique one, which offers 2 programs; Horsemanship 1 and Horsemanship 2.

Our international and local riding counselors are all qualified, experienced and passionate about teaching our campers to ride. The campers are taught on one of Forrestel’s family owned, well schooled horses, who are carefully matched to the child with age, size, ability and experience taken into consideration. Campers also have the option of bringing their own horse/pony with them to camp.

Riding instruction at Forrestel includes structured ring work and cross country riding. Our campers can choose to focus on different areas of their riding which can include; hunt seat equitiation, dressage, eventing, cross country and show jumping.

We also have our speciality horsey activities, which are all firm favourites. They include pony club games, trail riding, trips to the horse pond and overnight, and decorate a horse.

Within our Riding Program we also offer a stable management option, which includes all aspects of horse care from mucking out, trailer safety, preparing for shows, braiding and veterinary care.

CAMP FACILITIES: Campers attending Shankitunk for a week of summer fun will be assigned to one of our 15 rustic wooden cabins along the meadows edge. We have an outdoor swimming pool, low ropes course, basketball court, volleyball court, dining hall, craft hall, recreation pavilion, soccer field, archery range, Science Center, bathhouse with hot water and showers, maintenance shop, hiking trails, and river access for nature exploration.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: 4-H Camp Shankitunk is the oldest continuously operating 4-H camp in New York State. We first opened in 1927 as a vacation getaway for farm children in Delaware County, and have been providing a memorable experience for campers from all over the state and even other states ever since.

Our program has many rich traditions that have inspired grown campers to send their children back and even their grandchildren. Our chicken BBQ dinner, visit from the Delaware County Dairy Princess, closing candle ceremony, songs, class options, friendships, and flag salute are just a few. We hire a staff of approximately 40 each year, many of whom have been with us since they were old enough to attend Shankitunk themselves, but we love to welcome new faces into our camp family too. Ramapo for Children offers college students a valuable and highly unique summer job experience through one of our programs: Camp Ramapo. Ramapo runs one of the few residential summer camps that specifically serves children with social, emotional, and learning challenges. At our camp, staff members believe that all children want to succeed, and embrace the challenges of working with special needs children. Many of our staff alumni describe their work at Ramapo as having been a formative experience, and have gone on to be teachers, psychologists, social workers, organization directors, and even founders of national service nonprofits.

Camp Ramapo has a one-to-one staff-to-camper ratio that not only helps children who need more supervision and support, but also provides staff members with the intensive, hands-on experience that they need to grow professionally.

Staff members receive the same state-of-the-art training that we provide to teachers and other youth-service professionals already working in the field. This training equips them with practical techniques to build positive relationships, create supportive environments for children with special needs, and grow to become leaders in the field.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our SUNY Purchase College location is a sprawling 500-acre campus located in the heart of beautiful Westchester County. It offers endless acres of playing fields, training areas, and 2 new floodlit turf, football, and baseball fields. As many as six full soccer fields, 12 short-sided fields, and NCAA regulation baseball and softball diamonds are expertly maintained for daily use. Facilities also include 14 newly-surfaced deco tennis courts (6 lighted), 3 full indoor, and 3 outdoor basketball courts.

Campers will also utilize 3 air-conditioned indoor gymnasiums, racquetball and squash courts, training rooms, an Olympic-size indoor swimming pool, a newly-renovated performance center, and a video analysis room.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: The Youth Leadership Program (YLP) combines the fun of being a participant with important life skills such as leadership, personal development, teamwork, and communication, all under the watchful eyes of our experienced educators and coaches.

Working with guidance from our camp and program director(s), YLP participants will observe and assist in all aspects of the camp program and daily activities, while receiving performance feedback in a constructive environment, helping to build self-confidence and interpersonal skills.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have an air conditioned facility that is a community center during the year. The space is clean and modern, featuring a performance space, ample classrooms, and wheelchair accessibility. Located in a clean and safe family-friendly neighborhood next to a popular park.

How we work:
During our after school programs, summer camps, and workshops, we use the creative arts as a space to teach peace education. Our ultimate goal is to build a school where youth are involved with peace education during their academic studies. Our main rule is, 'All ideas are good'. In other words, we show kids that they rock.

Our programs aim:
- To provide a fun, safe space for students of all ages, backgrounds and learning styles.
- To encourage anti-bullying techniques of creative conflict resolution, tolerance and appreciation for the ideas and beliefs of others.
- To instill a love of music and the arts in children.
- To build appreciation for children’s creativity in the general public.

Kids Creative has at its core what we call the 6 C's of peacemaking. Each of these C's is essential to the building of communities in each of our programs. We have divided these into Upper Case and lower case C's.

Community—The overarching “C”. The ultimate key to building peace is being able to coexist with those around you, and to build a functional community where issues are raised and resolved in a constructive manner.

Confidence Building—The basic “C”. You have to be able to accept yourself, and be happy with who you are in order to feel an essential part of building a peaceful community.

Conflict Resolution—The tough “C”. The most difficult aspect of working with others is resolving problems that arise in a manner that is beneficial for all involved. It is possible to easily find temporary solutions, but this is only the first step to conflict resolution. For true peacebuilding, one must also know how to find solutions that are sustainable, meets the needs of the community, and take into account the often numerous factors that contributed to causing and perpetuating the conflict.

Collaboration—The cooperative “C”. No community exists in a bubble, and it is important that members feel invested in working together and finding sustainable solutions. Without collaboration, solutions are only temporary.

Creativity—The innovative “C”. Sometimes, we need to think outside the box and use our imaginations to solve conflicts that arise. We have to be open to the ideas of others to make everyone feel comfortable.

Cookies—The fun “C”. One of our strongest beliefs is that the more enjoyable it is to be a part of a community, the more people are going to want to be involved in sustaining it. People must feel like they are having fun in order to be invested in solving conflicts and building a peaceful, equitable society.

CAMP FACILITIES: At 200 feet, the Oliver Hazard Perry is the first ocean-going full-rigged ship to be built in the U.S. in over 100 years. It is the largest civilian sail training vessel in America. She has berths for 49 people overnight, and with 17 crew, a low camper to crew ratio creates a safe and fun environment. The ship is equipped with a steel hull, 3 masts, with square sails on all three masts, 20 sails totaling 14,000 square feet, and 7 miles of rope and wire. The engines run on a bio-diesel blend, and the ship is equipped with a modern galley (on-board kitchen), central air, an on-deck science lab, a library and wheel-chair accessibility above and below decks.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: With 17 professional crew and a capacity for 30-34 campers, our program promotes a dynamic and safe learning environment with a 2:1 ratio of campers to instructors. Campers will feel the thrill of steering a 500-ton ship, and learn to work the yards and sails while exploring the beautiful coasts of New England. They will learn safety at sea and perform important safety drills while acquiring skills in navigation, seamanship, sail handling, knots, and the language of the boat. Campers will explore the underwater world through snorkeling. They will understand wind, waves, tides and the ecology of sandy and rocky seashores. Sunsets, sunrises and the night sky will serve as the backdrop for this incredible experience, in addition to marine phosphorescence, dolphins and whales. Teamwork is an integral part of success onboard the boat, and in addition to learning about themselves, and achieving things they never imagined, they will make friendships to last a lifetime.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: In addition to witnessing the natural magic of the ocean and its inhabitants, each student crew will make friendships to last a lifetime. Campers will take responsibility for themselves and their fellow shipmates, learning to work as a team with others as they hoist and brace the yards on the ship's 130-foot tall rig and apply acquired navigational skills to guide the ship's course on a voyage of discovery.
